9-12 Independent Study Academy
The Visions In Education Independent Study Academy is open to students in grades 9-12 and is a non-classroom, standards-based independent study program. 9-12 Academy students receive academic support from credentialed teachers. Parents or guardians agree to help the student succeed by maintaining ongoing communication, providing necessary transportation, and monitoring educational progress. Curriculum is matched to a student's skill level, and instructional materials are provided by the 9-12 Academy. Students may also be provided with a personal computer for curriculum support and for communication between the student and teacher. The 9-12 Academy places special emphasis on mastering knowledge and skills necessary to pass the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE) and to complete graduation requirements. In order to meet college requirements, 9-12 Academy students with the appropriate academic background may enroll in community college classes, upon approval from a Visions counselor. Additionally, VIE has several Vocational training partnerships with a variety of educational providers (Community Colleges and ROP programs) which provide alternative career pathways. Upon graduation from the 9-12 Academy, a student will be prepared to enter the workforce, transition to a vocational/technical program, or enroll in community college with the potential to transfer to a four-year college.
